In a significant political shift, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate for Lagos West, Mr. Moshood Salvador, has announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Saturday in Surulere, Lagos.
Salvador, a former PDP Chairman in Lagos and ex-APC chieftain, was joined by leaders and members of his political group, Conscience Forum, in this move.
Salvador revealed that the defection coincided with the group’s 25th anniversary celebration, during which they assessed past achievements and planned for the future.
He stated, “The Labour Party has no future,” explaining that the coalition of parties under ADC offered better prospects for progress.
He emphasized, “ADC is the symbol of the new coalition,” highlighting its potential to drive meaningful change.
The Conscience Forum, according to Salvador, boasts over 400,000 members across Lagos State and is transitioning to ADC with its full organizational structure.
He added that the decision was “unanimously endorsed” by the forum’s state executives.
Welcoming Salvador, ADC National Secretary and former Osun Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, called on Nigerians to unite against the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“APC has failed Nigerians repeatedly,” Aregbesola declared, stressing that ADC prioritizes people’s welfare over other parties.
He further noted, “ADC is committed to building a people-friendly government.”
ADC Lagos Organising Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Ogidi, expressed optimism about the party’s future, stating, “The defections brighten the party’s future.”
He underscored ADC’s inclusive stance, saying, “The party welcomes all Nigerians regardless of religion or ethnicity.”
A former Ohaneze Ndigbo President in Lagos, Chief John Uche, also pledged the support of the Ndigbo community to ADC’s vision.
