FG distributes 4,200 bags of grains to less privileged in Bauchi

As the economic situation in the country continues to worsen, the federal government has distributed 4,200 bags of food products to the less privileged in Bauchi state to cushion their sufferings.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Ambassador Mariam Katagum, who distributed the relief items to beneficiaries at a brief ceremony held at the Next Level Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress in Bauchi State, reiterated the commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari to ensuring that Nigerians live a better life.

Represented by her Special Assistant, Ahmed Bashar, she said the 4200 items comprise of 1,200 bags of Sorghum, 1,200 bags of Maize, 1,200 bags of Garri and 600 bags of Millet.

She said: “It gives me great pleasure to be here with you today at the Secretariat of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Bauchi, for yet another milestone and a historic moment to handover assorted food products for onward distribution to the vulnerable populace in the state.

“This gesture is part of Mr. President’s desire to bring out millions of Nigerians out of poverty, as well as, to cushion some of the economic hardship in our society.

“The bottom line of this is to ensure that these items or commodities were shared to the appropriate beneficiaries. I therefore,urge you to be fair and apply justice in your sharing formula,” the Minister said.

Katagum, who commended the leadership of the APC in Bauchi State, for making the event not only a reality, but also, a success expressed optimism that the gesture will go a long way in alleviating hardship amongst our people, especially, the less privileged.

The State Chairman of the APC, Babayo Misau, who expressed gratitude to the Minister for her gesture, assured her that the items would be shared across the 20 local government areas of the state so that the less privileged can benefit.

Misau who was represented by the State Secretary, Mustapha Zirami, said: “We want to thank Ambassador Mariam Katagum for the heart she has for the less privileged in Bauchi State. These things were given to her, she could have done something else with them but she sent them to her people in Bauchi who need them.

“We will not share these items to APC members only, but we will share them to all those who are in need and who deserve them.”
