Fire razes 7 shops, property worth millions in Nasarawa

About 7 shops have been gutted by fire inferno that left properties worth millions of naira destroyed at the Tamma, a suburb near the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, in Nasarawa State capital.

The inferno which began at about 3am yesterday Saturday, continued till the following morning before it was put off by sympathisers and fire service.

This is the second time in the last three months that a similar incident happened where property worth over 10 million naira, was destroyed by an inferno at the yam market in Nasarawa town.

A source who narrated what happened to our correspondent, said the fire burnt most of the property in the building before the fire officials and sympathizers arrived to put it off.

“The fire began around 3am on Saturday and it burnt property worth millions of naira before sympathizers and fire service personnel arrived at the scene of the incident’ he said.

As at the time of filling this report, the remote and immediate causes of the inferno is yet to be ascertained.

Information officer of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Yahaya Abdulrahman, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on telephone, sympathized with the victims.

He called on traders and other shop owners to switched off their electrical appliances when going to sleep.
