The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has directed the opening of tax offices on weekends for the month of June to help companies meet the Companies Income Tax (CIT) filing deadline.
FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, announced that tax offices will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays, starting from June 14 to June 29.
“This initiative is part of our commitment to matching our customer-centric policy with tangible action,” Adedeji said.
“It is aimed at helping companies that are mandated by law to file their tax returns by the end of the month meet up with the deadline.”
The move is expected to ease the pressure on companies with a December 31 financial year-end, which are required to file their tax returns by June 30.
Adedeji’s directive underscores the FIRS’ efforts to provide taxpayer-friendly services and support businesses in meeting their tax obligations.
As Adedeji noted, “Many taxpayers which financial year ends December 31, are expected to file their tax returns by June 30.”
The FIRS’ weekend service is designed to provide additional support to taxpayers during this critical period.
