Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom
By JOHN ONAH, Abuja-The Oju II Unity Forum, on Tuesday, condemns the unwarranted attack on the executive Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom and call on the Security Agencies to hunt for the perpetrators of this heinous act and immediately bring them to book.
In a statement by the forum National Publicity Secretary Eka A’adu Dickson,
the attack has further put to question the already worsen security situation across the country.
It called on President Muhammadu Buhari to live up to his word by ensuring that a full scale investigation be ordered into the attack in order for the culprits to be brought to book.
While commending President Muhammadu Buhari’s his timely directive to the security agencies to cause a comprehensive investigation into the matter by ordering high powered investigators to Benue state to fish out the culprits in order to face the laws as required, the Forum urged the Investigators to do a thorough job.
On the renewed hostilities between the Bonta people of Konshisha LG and Ukpute in Oju LG, the forum strongly believe that these crises were avoidable if the authorities including the Community Leaders live up to the expectations of the citizens in providing security.
“It’s surprising and alarming that over a month of hostilities and a blockade on the ever busy Oju-Awajir road with many lives lost and properties including farmlands destroyed, Government at all levels have not been able to mobilize security agencies to safeguard the people and open the busy road to traffic, thereby causing untold suffering to the people of Oju and Konshisha LGAs”, Dickson added.
“While we commend the State Boundary Committee for making efforts to demarcate the boundaries as resolved at the State Security Meeting, we recommend the immediate deployment of anti-riot Police to the affected areas, building a Police Mobile Barrack at the border as a long term solution and the immediate intervention of the State Government in arresting the crisis and the reopening of the road to ease the sufferings of the people”.
