Speaker of the House of Representative, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Lagos State Wing, has commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, for his many interventions in education, especially in his Surulere Federal Constituency 1.

Mr Badejo Adewale, State Deputy Chairman of NUT, who gave the commendation in an interview with the NAN in Lagos, said the Speaker’s many interventions, which include renovation of schools, provision of learning and teaching facilities, among others, had helped to lift education in the constituency.

Adewale particularly commended the Speaker for providing laptops for teachers and principals in Surulere, saying the devices would help the beneficiaries to do their work and improve their knowledge of ICT.

The Speaker had distributed 252 laptops in a week-long programme to teachers and principals across schools in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency.

Describing the provision of the work tools as a step in the right direction, Adewale noted that the laptops would motivate the teachers to give their best to their students .

“A lot of transformation has come to Surulere 1 Federal Constituency, particularly in schools in the last two years that Gbajabiamila became Speaker.

“Those that benefited from the laptops are very happy, thanks also to Mr Olugbenga Shoremekun, our NUT Chairman in Surulere, who made sure that majority of the schools were captured.

“Gbajabiamila is lifting education, affecting lives and the community at large. Some schools are being renovated, teachers, vice-principals and principals and even students are feeling his impact,” he said.

Mr Olugbenga Shoremekun, Chairman of NUT, Surulere, told NAN that the speaker had provided consistent support to the union in Surulere.

Shoremekun said the Speaker had given many facilities to the NUT, nincluding a bus to ease movements and efficiently run union activities.

“Gbajabiamila is a unique gem, he has passion for people, we are witnesses and are benefiting from his support.

“Our chapter has become a pace-setter, Both teachers and students are getting the necessary encouragement. And they are standing tall among their colleagues in the areas of teaching, courtesy of the Speaker,” he said.

The NUT Chairman said months back, 494 students in 38 junior and senior secondary schools in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency were given laptops, e-learning kits, antivirus kits as well as Wifi and 38 projectors with screens.

While appreciating the Speaker for the Hummer bus given to NUT in Surulere, he appealed to Gbajabiamila to provide a Coaster bus to the union in order to accommodate more members towards active participation in activities of the NUT across the state wing.
