Gov. Idris awards N9.4bn road contracts in Kebbi

The Kebbi Governor, Nasir idris has awarded N9.4 billion contract for rehabilitation and upgrading of metropolitan roads in Birnin Kebbi.

Governor Idris said this during the official signing of the contract agreement with Habib Engineering Nigeria Limited, on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.

He said: “The state is our state and we have seen things by ourselves; therefore, we want to make Birnin Kebbi a befitting state capital”.

Idris urged company to abide by the contractual agreements and execute the work according to the specifications.

“We will monitor and ensure full fledged compliance of the work.

“In the next two weeks, we will sign another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the completion of our Secretariat Complex in Gwadangwaji area in Birnin Kebbi.

“Similar road projects will be extended to other two senatorial districts as the government will do everything humanly possible to do justice to all the people in the state,” he said.

Idris said the government would also renovate hospitals and schools by August, adding that, “where the schools need construction, we will construct and where they need renovation, we will renovate.

“We cannot afford to fail education, health and agriculture as we will help our farmers to ensure food security in the state.”

On welfare of workers, the governor said his administration would sustain timely payment of pension and gratuities to civil servants as well as prompt payment of salaries to all categories of workers in the state.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Alhaji Sa’adu Musa-Sakaba, said the projects happened to be one of the dream projects of the governor in giving the state capital a befitting look.

“The scope of the projects comprised; asphalts, overlaying of the duel carriage way from NNPC mega station to Rima roundabout; from NDLEA roundabout up to Haliru Audu roundabout and from Haliru Audu roundabout up to AP 2 roundabout.

“Provision of solar street lights along the five major roads to be affected by the rehabilitation and drainages along Gwadangwaji and Oasis areas, among others,” he said.

According to him, the projects are expected to be completed in 18 months.

Also, the General Manager of the company, Mr Ammar Nouri, pledged to adhere to the contract specifications and complete the project within the stipulated time. (NAN)
