Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has said the Nigeria legislature has lost one of its brightest brains and committed advocates in the person of Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
The governor In a condolence message, noted that the late lawmaker left behind a legacy of honour and leadership.
Late Senator Akwashiki, who represented Nasarawa North at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, died in an Indian hospital on Wednesday after a protracted illness.
Governor Sule, said though the late legislator had been ill, he was shocked to receive the news of his death, saying he was a grassroots politician with deep concern for the progress and development of his constituency.
“It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that I receive the news of the passing of distinguished senator Godiya Akwashiki, Matawallen Eggon. Death has again robbed us of an illustrious son. Senator Akwashiki was an accomplished public servant, courageous legislator and a devoted son of Eggon land.
“His humility, commitment and service to his people was remarkable. His journey as a politician was a demonstration of deep connection with the common man. The death of the distinguished senator is painful not only to his family, the Eggon nation and the people of Nasarawa North but to our entire state and the Nigerian legislature.
“We shall continue to cherish his legacy of honour, leadership, and steadfast commitment to the progress of our dear state.
“On behalf of the government and people of Nasarawa State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, His Royal Highness the Aren Eggon, the Eggon Traditional Council, the National Assembly and all who mourn this great son of Nasarawa.
“May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and give us all the strength to bear this painful loss,” the governor said.
