The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) is holding a closed-door meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, at the NGF Secretariat in Abuja.
The meeting, led by the Forum Chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, comes on the heels of the recent killings in Yelewata, Benue, where over 100 people were slaughtered.
The meeting is expected to focus on the issue of insecurity in the country, with the governors likely to take briefings from the NSA and the Defence Minister on the government’s efforts to address the crisis.
The meeting’s agenda may also include discussions on how to enhance security measures and prevent further attacks.
The meeting follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, to immediately arrest the killer herders who perpetrated the heinous killing in Yelewata community.
The President also urged the heads of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to intensify surveillance and gather actionable intelligence to apprehend the perpetrators.
The governors’ meeting with the NSA and Defence Minister is a significant step towards finding lasting solutions to the security crisis in the country.
As Governor AbdulRazaq noted, the meeting is crucial for discussing security challenges and finding ways to address them.
The meeting’s outcome is expected to provide a clearer direction on how to tackle the security crisis and ensure the safety of lives and property in the country.
