JAMB Registrar Prof Oloyede hands over to Okoro as tenure expires

 After a most eventful five-year tenure as Registrar/Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Is-haq Olarenwaju Oloyede has bowed out of the public examinations body.

Prof Oloyede, whose tenure in office expired alongside those of 13 other agencies and parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Education, formally handed over to the Director, Information Technology Services, Dr. Fabian O. Okoro, who is the most senior management staff of the Board.

The tenure of many other chief executives of parastatals and agencies under the ministry have also came to and end last week, including the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed; Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB),Dr. Hameed Boboyi; Registrar, National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Prof. Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe and; the Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Prof. Sunday Ajiboye.

Other chief executives are Afolabi Aderinto of Computer Registration Council of Nigeria (CRCN); Prof. Garba Dahuwa Azare of National Teachers Institute (NTI); Prof. Michael Afolabi of Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and; Prof. Steven Ejugwu Onah of the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Shedda.

The rest are Prof. Chinyere Ohiri-Aniche of the National Institute of Nigerian Languages (NINL); Prof. Lillian Salami of Nigerian Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA); Prof. Lanre Aina of National Library of Nigeria (NLN); Prof. Abba Haladu of National Commission for Mass Literacy Adult and Non-Formal Education and; Prof. Bashir Usman of Nomadic Education Commission.

There are expectations that a number of the education sector chief executives, particularly Prof Oloyede of JAMB, would be re-appointed for another five-year by President Muhammadu Buhari if the public perception of their good performance during their first tenure is anything to go by.

Oloyede, who was born on 10, October, 1954 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, had spent four decades in teaching, research and public service, starting from the position of Assistant Lecturer in 1982 and rising through the ranks to become a Professor of international repute in 1995.

Before his appointment as Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (2007 – 2012), he was a Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration (2005 – 2007), a Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic (2003 – 2005) and a Director of Academic Planning of the University (2001 – 2003)

He also served as the Chairman of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities and Committee of Vice-Chancellors (2011 – 2012) and Co-Secretary of National Political Reform Conference (2005 – 2006). He is presently the National Coordinator of Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (2007 to date); and Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (2013 to date).
