Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has sought stronger collaboration with town planning professionals to advance sustainable urban development and improve land administration in the state.
The governor said his administration is enhancing transparency in land allocation, enforcing development control regulations, and promoting orderly urban expansion, while also investing in infrastructure and urban renewal initiatives to improve the quality of life of citizens.
Uba Sani, represented by his deputy, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, stated this when a delegation of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) paid a courtesy visit to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.
He noted that the state government has undertaken deliberate reforms to strengthen urban planning and land administration systems, stressing that collaboration with professional bodies remains critical to achieving desired outcomes.
“Government cannot do this alone. We need the expertise, guidance, and partnership of professional bodies such as yours.
“Your role in ensuring adherence to standards, building capacity, and promoting innovation in planning practice is vital to achieving sustainable development outcomes,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed his
administration’s commitment to both rural and urban development, adding that an ambitious development agenda driven by massive infrastructure projects is currently being implemented.
He appealed to members of the institute to continue providing expert advisory and technical services, particularly on the impact of land use on social and economic development.
Uba Sani also recalled the longstanding relationship between Kaduna State and the institute, noting that the state has maintained development plans since 1913, including master plans, spatial development frameworks, and infrastructure blueprints.
“This history underscores the institute’s deep-rooted commitment to ensuring orderly growth and development in the state,” he said.
He further disclosed that Kaduna State is among the pilot states selected by the World Bank Group for the Nigerian Land Titling, Registration and Documentation Programme.
According to him, a team from the World Bank and the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development recently visited the state to assess its land administration and governance systems.
Addressing the delegation led by NITP Vice President, Prof Kingsley Ogboli, alongside members of the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, the governor said the visit offers an opportunity to align priorities and deepen collaboration.
“Kaduna State remains open and committed to working with your institutions to build cities and communities that are well-planned, inclusive, safe, and economically vibrant,” he added.
