Kaduna State Police Command has busted an alleged child-trafficking operation, rescuing 17 minors and arresting three people believed to be behind the scheme.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, revealed the development in a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna.
According to him, officers acted swiftly on Nov. 12 after receiving credible intelligence about suspicious movements near the Danmagaji Flyover in Zaria.
Responding to the tip-off, personnel from the Danmagaji Division intercepted the suspects and discovered 17 children of varying ages. Hassan explained that the group was “allegedly being prepared for trafficking to Abuja and other parts of the country and beyond.”
The three arrested suspects—whose names were withheld—are said to be from Funtua, Ingawa, and Unguwa Uku in Katsina and Kano States. Early findings, Hassan noted, suggest the children had been picked up from different communities and were being transported to Abuja.
“All the rescued children are in good health and are currently under the care of the police command,” he said, adding that efforts are underway to identify their families and reunite them safely.
Hassan also quoted Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, who praised the officers for acting quickly and reinforced the command’s firm stance against “child trafficking and exploitation in any form.” He confirmed that the suspects will be charged once investigations conclude.
The command urged parents and guardians to stay alert and avoid falling for promises of supposed opportunities for their children in distant cities. Hassan advised communities to report any suspicious individuals or movements to the nearest police station for immediate action.
