Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo
Kogi State Government has started building a toll gate on Crusher Road to support its upkeep, a key route connecting various state establishments.
Commissioner for Works, Mr. Mohammed Yusuf, shared this development during a media interaction in his Lokoja office on Friday.
He noted that Crusher Road, also referred to as Zone 8 Crusher Road, was commissioned by Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2024 but is deteriorating due to heavy traffic from articulated vehicles transporting materials like coal.
“When we noticed the road’s condition worsening, we summoned the contractor back to the site.
“However, we paused the repairs due to ongoing rains,” Yusuf explained.
He stated that the toll gate aims to ensure the road’s long-term maintenance and sustainability. Construction is underway, with completion expected in a few weeks. Revenue generated from the tolls will be reinvested into maintaining the road, particularly given the strain from heavy vehicles.
Yusuf highlighted the infrastructure achievements of Governor Ahmed Ododo’s administration, citing completed projects like the Zone 8-Zango-GYB road, internal roads at CUSTECH, and township roads in Yagba East, Yagba West, and Kabba.
He called on communities to safeguard these roads, urging them to report suspicious activities, avoid burning tires on road surfaces, and prevent drainage blockages to preserve the infrastructure.
