
Late photojournalist, Mr. Ayo Aiyepeku, was murdered by his colleague in Lokoja
Kogi State Police Command has retrieved that the remains of Mr. Ayo Aiyepeku, a photojournalist allegedly killed by his colleague, Oluwapelumi Adebayo.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Lokoja.
Ovye-Aya revealed that Aiyepeku’s body was discovered on Sunday evening near the WAEC office in the Crusher Zone 8 area of Lokoja. The journalist was reportedly murdered by Adebayo on the night of July 22 in an office close to the Government House/GRA in Lokoja.
“The body of the photojournalist was located on Sunday evening in the Zone 8 area near the WAEC office,” Ovye-Aya stated.
“It has been taken to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital in Lokoja. Our discreet investigation will aim to uncover the circumstances of this incident.”
He urged the public, the victim’s family, and colleagues to share any relevant information to assist the investigation.
The family of the deceased has called on the police and the Kogi State government to ensure justice is served.
Speaking to NAN, Mr. Timothy Aiyepeku, the victim’s elder brother, and Dr. Ibikunle Jide, his uncle, expressed their desire for a thorough investigation into the brutal killing.
They appealed to Governor Ahmed Ododo and security agencies to bring the culprits to justice.
“We are grateful for the police efforts and the media’s role in highlighting this case,” they said.
“Now that Ayo’s body has been found, we urge the federal and state governments, along with the police, to unravel the truth behind this tragedy.”
Reports indicate that after the murder, the suspect placed Aiyepeku’s body in a freezer before disposing of it. The body was later discovered by local residents, who were alerted by a foul smell emanating from a nearby bush.
The residents notified Abdullahi Adamu, the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, who arrived at the scene with security personnel to recover the remains. (NAN)
