Members of The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Kwara State Chapter, turned out in large numbers to create awareness and sensitize workers and the public on the need for them to enjoy a safe and healthy working environment.
The workers stormed the streets of Ilorin on Friday to celebrate the 2023 World Day for Safety and Health at Work in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital with the theme: ‘A Safe and Healthy Working Environment, A Fundamental Right’.
The Head of Health Safety and Environment, NSITF, Kwara, Mr Ademola Adewole, said the rally was meant to create awareness and to awake workers of their right to a safe and healthy working environment.
He said World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated annually on 28 April to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally.
He noted that NSITF will provide the following services; improve staff welfare, increased job satisfaction, increased employee morale , rehabilitation & return -to-work of injured employees, compensation payment and guaranteed workers security among others.
” We want to encourage balance of safe, healthy and appropriate working environment for workers in the country.
“Workers have right to safe and healthy working environment. Workers deserved the best and that is why we are calling on them to storm NSITF to secure a friendly and safety working environment,” he said .
The theme of the event; A Safe and Healthy Working Environment, A Fundamental Right’. witnessed a positive response from the public.
Some civil servants, who spoke with newsmen, disclosed that they were not aware of NSITF, but would visit their office to know more, register and key into the services of the Fund.
