Kwara workers gets Federal Mortgage Bank house renovation loans

Civil servants in Kwara State on Monday received loans for the renovation of homes owned by them from the Federal Mortgage Bank.

The beneficiaries, four hundred and sixty three in number had earlier contributed 2.5 percent of their basic income through the National Housing Fund.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, Architect Musa Dangiwa who was represented by the Deputy General Manager, Mr. Ibrahim Nafada said; the bank has a good working relationship with both the Kwara state government and its workers and expressed hope that the presentation which is at its third phase will further strengthen the harmonious relationship they enjoy.

Nafada said, the presentation would have been done but for the lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He then called on the state government to provide ten hectares of land to facilitate the construction of homes for civilian servants under an agreement between the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress and the bank.

In her welcome address, the State Head of Service whose office is in charge of the disbursement, Dr. Mrs. Susan Oluwole called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money and use it for what it is meant for adding that the state government will continue to ensure the welfare of its workers.

On his part, the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Kayode Alabi commended the federal government for the initiative as it is making a huge impact in the lives of workers whom he described as the “bulk of our critical mass”.

He added that “without workers, nothing meaningful gets done. For this reason, we will always mobilise available resources and grab every opportunity to improve the wellbeing of the civil servants as well as the ordinary citizens. This event is another testimony of the resolve of this administration to grab every opportunity to make our workers happy”.

The money which is in the excess of three hundred million the governor said the beneficiaries should ensure judicious of and added that the government will continue to strive hard within its limited resources to ensure prompt payment of salaries and emoluments and ensure the welfare of its workers.
