Lawmaker empowers 321 constituents in Nasarawa

The House of Representatives member representing Akwanga, Wamba and Nasarawa Egon federal constituency of Nasarawa State, Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, has empowered over 321 members of his constituent with various items.

The lawmaker also awarded scholarship to 101 indigent students studying in various higher institutions to assist them in their educational pursuit within and outside the country to mark his 100 days in office.

The occasion which had Governor Abdullahi Sule, of Nasarawa State in attendance, took place on Saturday, at the convocation square of College of Education, Akwanga.

Some of the distributed items included – 40 deep freezers, 30 sowing machines, 30 grinding machines, 100 cooking stove, while 20 vehicles were donated to his supporters across party lines as well as three transformers to the three local government that make up the federal constituency.

Umaru, popularly known as (JJ Umaru or Sabon Salo) in his constituency, said the gesture was part of his thank you to the people of his constituency for standing by him before, during and after the recent general elections that took him to where he is at the moment.

The federal lawmaker, who also announced a scholarship of N50, 000 each, to 101 students from constituency studying at different tertiary institutions across the country, said the beneficiaries were drown from all the polling units of the 35 electoral wards in his constituency.

Sabo Salo, who recently donated three 300 KVA transformers, installed 100 solar powered street lights and distributed fertilisers and sprayer to 100 farmers, explained that the 20 vehicles donated to his supporters cutting across all political parties was to appreciate them and to tell them that the time for politics was over as such, people should begin to enjoy the benefit of good governance.

“I have designed a comprehensive blueprint to tackle the numerous challenges confronting the people of my constituency including programme to tackle the issue of electricity, address the need of the youths, women, empower farmers to ensure food security, promote sporting activities among others,” the lawmaker declared.

“It is my pleasure to announce the sponsorship of six bills which had passed first reading and one motion at the green chamber within my three months to attract federal presence to my constituency” he said.

Umaru, who holds the traditional title of (Jakadan Wamba), then promised to give his constituency the best representation to justify the confidence and mandate given him during the polls.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, of Nasarawa State, while speaking during the occasion, commended the member for making the state and his constituency proud within the shortest possible time of going to the house of representatives.

Gov Sule, who cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the items, but rather make judicious use of the items to better their lives, also encouraged the member to sustain his performances.

Governor Sule also lauded the member for sponsoring six bills in just 100 days in office saying, “there is no way a member who is not serious to deliver will be able to sponsor such number of bills within the period under review.

In a goodwill message, Nasarawa State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Aliyu Bello, commended the law maker for his performance during his 100 days.

He encouraged the lawmaker to sustain his performance, adding that his constituents would always be proud that they entrusted him with their mandate.
