
Benue State Government has assured the fans Lobi Stars FC that the club would soon start playing their home matches in Makurdi, the state’s capital.
Speaking with some members of Sport Writers Association (SWAN) in Makurdi, after inspecting the work on the McCarthy stadium, the State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Creativity, Hon. Tiza Imojime, said that efforts were being made to sand-fill the pit at the stadium preparatory for the Lobi Stars home matches to be played in Makurdi.
Imojime explained that the pit was excavated for pillars to be mounted for spectators but they needed to urgently ensure the return of Lobi Stars home matches to Makurdi and that arose the need to sand fill the pit
“This will enable us to begin renovation of the stadium holistically in piece meal where construction will be going on and spectators will at the same time too be on the other side of the stadium, watching matches conveniently without hitches.”
The Commissioner disclosed that when they started work on the stadium it was a holistic rehabilitation but eventually has to be strategic because the stadium needs to be in use and assured that the backfilling would last only for three days.
“Lobi will be playing their next away NNL match on Thursday, this week in Kano and we are hoping that their next home NNL match will be played at the McCarthy stadium.
“I want to assure you that Lobi will come back home and as long as Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia is the Governor and I the Youth, Sports and Creativity Commissioner, that will happen and very soon.”
