Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, one of Nigeria’s leading private power generation companies, has pledged to support Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in its ongoing infrastructure renewal drive.
The company also announced plans to partner with the university on its forthcoming 45th Convocation, scheduled for January 2026.
As part of its intervention, Mainstream Energy will assist in upgrading ABU’s internal road network, most of which were constructed in the 1960s and have never been rehabilitated. The university’s nearly 30 kilometers of internal roads across its two campuses are currently in a state of disrepair.
The company is also supporting the rehabilitation of toilets and the improvement of water supply within the campuses. In preparation for the convocation, it will give the university’s 1,000-seater Abdullahi Mahadi Conference Centre a facelift ahead of the convocation lecture.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, who recently paid a courtesy visit to the company’s headquarters in Abuja, expressed appreciation for Mainstream Energy’s “unwavering support and friendship,” describing the partnership as one that has grown steadily since 2017.
“Your interventions have consistently come at critical moments, especially when our energy costs escalated to an unsustainable ₦370 million in May 2025,” Prof. Ahmed said.
He noted that the company’s plan to replicate the Kainji Dam model power plant at ABU’s Faculty of Engineering would revolutionise practical training and research.
Prof. Ahmed also commended the firm for sponsoring 20 ABU students on a hands-on excursion to the Kainji Hydroelectric facility, describing it as “a powerful demonstration of belief in the future of Nigerian youths.”
He particularly lauded the company’s Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services, Siraj Abdullahi, and Non-Executive Director, Babangida Inuwa, for their leadership and personal commitment to the partnership.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed ABU’s resolve to deepen its collaboration with the company through quality graduates, research, and innovation-driven initiatives that will continue to support Mainstream’s operations and national development goals.
