Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA has dealt a major blow to terrorist groups operating in Niger State, killing scores of fighters during a series of precision air strikes targeting their movements and logistics network.
The successful operations were carried out on June 29, following credible intelligence that more than 200 terrorists riding on motorcycles were advancing along the Sangeko–Dogon Dawa–Womba corridor in Mariga Local Government Area. Security sources indicated that the group was mobilising to reinforce criminal hideouts within the Kamuku Forest while planning coordinated attacks on surrounding communities.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, military air assets were deployed on an Armed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (AISR) mission to monitor suspected terrorist activities across Womba, Dogon Dawa, Kurugin, Birnin Gwari, Polewaya and Udawa.
During the aerial patrol, aircrew identified three motorcycles transporting suspected terrorists towards the Kamuku Forest. After confirming the targets in line with operational rules, the aircraft launched precision strikes that successfully eliminated the militants.
Military authorities said a post-strike assessment, conducted in collaboration with troops on the ground, confirmed the terrorists were neutralised. Additional surveillance carried out after the attack found no further suspicious movement within the area.
In another operation on the same day, fighter aircraft conducted armed reconnaissance over Dogon Dawa, Kurugin Maidawa and nearby communities, where several armed terrorists were spotted gathering at what was believed to be a logistics and refuelling point.
The location was identified as a key support hub used to sustain terrorist operations. The aircraft subsequently carried out a precision strike, destroying the facility and killing a significant number of the terrorists assembled there.
According to military sources, both missions were executed with high accuracy and in strict compliance with operational procedures, with no reports of civilian casualties or collateral damage.
The latest success is part of ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their supply routes and restore security across parts of Niger State and the wider North-West region.
