Minister commends NEDC for executing developmental project in North-East

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq has commended The North East Development Commission (NEDC) for executing its intervention mandate of resettlement, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the north east which has been devastated by Boko Haram insurgency.

Hajiya Sadiya stated this on Monday at a media parley with media executives and mangers organized by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) held at the NEDC Headquarters Conference Hall Maiduguri.

The minister, who was represented by Alhaji Sadiq Abba Shehu of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs added that, the federal government is impressed with various intervention projects executed by NEDC in the North East states.

She also assured that all the recommendations made by the media parley participants will be packaged and carefully reviewed to ascertain their inclusion into the master plan framework of the interventions projects and programmes being executed by the commission.

On his part, The Chairman, Board of Trustees ((BOT), NEDC, Major General Paul Tafa thanked all the participants for honouring the commission’s invitation while acknowledging the contributions and recommendations which will be critically looked into.

He pledged that the commission will continue to carry out its responsibilities diligently and effectively while appreciating the support and encouragement of the president, minister and Managing Director of NEDC, other supporting staff and collaborating institutions.

The Managing Director/CEO, NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, who presided over the media parley highlighted several achievements of the NEDC mandate as stipulated in the Act establishing the commission and plans to execute more intervention projects and programmes.

He also assured that all the recommendations, suggestions and observations by the participants would be considered and give attention.

Highlights of the occasion wer PowerPoint presentations on the achievements of NEDC, group photographs and interactive session.

Two papers were also presented during the media parley which include a paper by Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA) on role of the media in conflict area and the second paper was presented by a renowned Professor of Mass Communication and Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Kashere, Gombe, Professor Umar Pate.
