The Minister of Education, Hon. Mahmoud Tunde Alausa, has officially flagged off a two-week Train-the-Trainer Workshop for 600 Tsangaya and Islamiyya teachers across the North East region.
The workshop, organized by the Nigeria Arabic Language Village (NALV) in collaboration with the North East Development Commission (NEDC), aims to improve the quality of Islamic and Arabic education in the region.
Alausa, represented by the Vice Chancellor of Al-Ansar University, Professor Abubakar Kundiri, emphasized that the initiative is a bold step towards addressing the pressing educational challenges in the region, particularly the issue of out-of-school children.
He noted that the training would enhance teachers’ understanding of Arabic language, preventing misapplication and misinterpretation that can lead to doctrinal confusion.
“We commend the Nigeria Arabic Language Village for its consistent pursuit of excellence in Arabic language teaching and for its role as a national model in specialized language education,” Alausa said.
“To our participants, I urge you to engage fully in the sessions ahead. You are the seeds being nurtured today to become strong trees tomorrow, mentors, educators, and beacons of knowledge in your communities.” He added.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, and the Shehu of Borno for their support and vision for inclusive education. He also commended the Managing Director of NEDC and the Executive Director of NALV for their leadership and dedication to educational development.
Borno State Deputy Governor, Hon. Umar Usman Kadafur, represented by the Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Hon. Babagana Malarima, noted that the workshop represents a significant milestone in rebuilding and empowering the educational infrastructure of the North East.
The workshop is expected to have a lasting impact on the region’s education sector, with participants becoming agents of educational excellence, cultural preservation, and empowerment of the next generation.
