Bishop of Calabar, Anglican Communion, Professor Nneoyi Egbe
By PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
The Bishop of Calabar, Anglican Communion, Professor Nneoyi Egbe has described as unjust, and wrong for a secular state such as Nigeria to allow any presidential candidate to nominate a Christian-Christian ticket or Muslim-Muslim tickets.
“We absolutely do not , will not and cannot accept a Muslim/Muslim or Christian/Christian ticket. Nigerian peculiarity must be respected by our Leader’s”
Bishop Egbe stated this while addressing newsmen on Monday to mark the second session of the Eleven Synod of the Holly Trinity Anglican Communion which is scheduled for 13th -17th July in Ikom LGA of Cross River State.
He was reacting to the emergence of Senator Kashim Shettima, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Presidential candidate being a Muslim and the presidential candidate Bola Tunibu, who is also a Muslim.
According to him, “one area of major concern in today politics is the insincerity of the political class as evidenced in their refusal to pass the electoral bill”.
He said “if vote buying is seen as an offence, it is more likely that politicians will carry bullion vans and bags of money to election ground, let’s the electoral offences bill be passed immediately”
“We wish to commend INEC for the extension of the voter’s registration exercise, though no terminal date has been given, we appeal that INEC increase the number”
“We are driving steadily to another season of choosing leaders .Yet it is very clear that the political gladiators parading the corridors of our political system have not learn any lesson”
