Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has promised to support security agencies with technological gadgets to enhance surveillance and intelligence gathering toward tackling insecurity in the state.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, disclosed this during a bimonthly press conference on Thursday in Lafia, the state capital.
According to the SSA, the state government, has commenced discussions with a reputable security firm on the gadgets required and the quantity needed to complement the current efforts of the security agencies.
“The state was considering acquiring Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), drones, among others, as part of measures to tackle the rising cases of kidnapping and other security challenges in parts of the state,“ he said.
He noted that given the growing security concerns around the Lafia flyover and underpass, the government had deployed Nasarawa Youths Empowerment Agency (NAYEA) personnel to man the area.
On the issue of 2027 general election, Ahemba restated governor’s call on politicians to desist from premature campaigns.
He noted that Sule was focused on delivering on his four-year mandate and charged his appointee with political ambitions in 2027 to resign.
On education, Ahemba said that the government was fully committed to the revitalisation of the sector.
He revealed that the state, through its Universal Basic Education Board, recently revoked nine contracts for the construction of schools over shoddy job.
The SSA further said that as part of efforts to provide a conducive learning environment, government had procured 16, 000 plastic and wooden chairs to be distributed to primary schools across the state .
