Nasarawa State Government through the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), is set to distribute thirty thousand (30,000) set of chairs to primary schools across the three senatorial zones.
Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Kassim Mohammed Kassim, who disclosed this during a media briefing in Lafia, said each senatorial zone will get 10,000 set of chairs each.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, of Nasarawa State, is expected to flag off the distribution of the chairs on Thursday, during a ‘Summit’ organized by the board to chat the road map for education in the state.
“The state government had initially approved the purchase of 15,744 chairs, but due to increased demand, the governor graciously approved more, which will be distributed to schools across the state” he said.
According to him, the state government is committed to improving education and the distribution of chairs is part of efforts to create a conducive learning environment. The government is also focusing on improving the quality of teaching and learning”
SUBEB chairman, further, emphasized the need for teachers to be committed to their work, stating that the teaching profession is not just a career, but a noble calling that shapes the future of the nation.
“Teachers are expected to follow the curriculum, scheme of work, and lesson plans to ensure effective teaching and learning. The lesson plan is a guide that helps teachers during the teaching process, and its absence can hinder effective teaching”
“The state government has invested heavily in education, including the promotion of teachers and the implementation of the minimum wage. The governor has also introduced the “Leave No Child Behind” project to improve education outcomes” Kasim said.
He appealed to stakeholders to take ownership of schools and support the education sector saying “Parents, teachers, and stakeholders must work together to ensure that every child has access to quality education” he said.
He said school curriculums emphasizes the importance of mathematics and English, and teachers are expected to follow the sequence of teaching these subjects. “For instance, in mathematics, teachers should start with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division” he said.
