National Assembly (NASS) has suspended all legislative activities for one week to pay tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.
The suspension, which takes effect immediately, will last until Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, saying: “In honour of his legacy and service to the nation… all legislative activities in the National Assembly are hereby suspended immediately until Tuesday, July 22.”
The leadership of both Chambers urged all members to reschedule their engagements to enable full participation in the burial activities of the late President.
“The leadership of both Chambers, on behalf of members and staff of the National Assembly extend heartfelt condolences to: the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; the government and people of Katsina State; his wife, children, and the entire Buhari family,” the statement added.
The National Assembly described President Buhari as a leader who will be remembered for his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and his integrity. “May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement concluded.
The suspension of plenary is a testament to the impact of the late President’s legacy on the nation [1].
