Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has efuted the false and misleading publications currently circulating across social media and online platforms alleging that the Federal Government has suspended students’ upkeep allowance payments under the student loan scheme.
The Director, Strategic Communications, NELFUND, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja.
Mrs. Oluwatuyi said the reports, including a fabricated statement falsely attributed to NELFUND and an AI-generated newspaper front page purportedly from The Nigerian Tribune, are entirely fake, misleading, and designed to create panic, confusion, and distrust among beneficiaries and the general public.
“NELFUND wishes to state unequivocally that no directive has been issued by the Federal Government or NELFUND regarding the suspension of upkeep allowances.
“The publications in circulation did not originate from NELFUND or any authorized government channel.
“The newspaper cover currently being shared is AI-generated and does not represent a genuine publication from The Nigerian Tribune”, it said.
NELFUND said it remains committed to the transparent and efficient disbursement of student loans and upkeep support in line with its mandate.
“Beneficiaries, stakeholders, and members of the public are strongly advised to disregard these fake publications and rely solely on verified information disseminated through NELFUND’s official communication channels and credible media platforms”.
The Fund also urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified content capable of spreading misinformation and causing unnecessary anxiety among students and parents nationwide”.
“The Fund remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding access to higher education and supporting Nigerian students through sustainable financing initiatives”.
