National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Lagos Operations Office, has distributed relief materials to residents affected by recent flood and windstorm disasters in Lagos Island Federal Constituency II.
The direct distribution exercise, held on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at Eko Akete Grammar School, Campbell Street, Lagos Island, was facilitated by the Member representing Lagos Island Constituency II in the House of Representatives, Hon. Prince Kayode Moshood Akiolu.
The intervention was aimed at providing immediate humanitarian assistance to affected households and cushioning the impact of the disasters, which resulted in damage to homes, businesses and livelihoods.
Speaking during the exercise, the representative of NEMA conveyed the sympathy of the Director-General of the Agency, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to the affected residents, assuring them of the Federal Government’s continued concern and commitment to supporting communities affected by disasters.
The distribution was carried out in collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Local Government Council, security agencies and community representatives.
The coordinated effort ensured that the exercise was conducted in a peaceful, orderly and transparent manner, with relief materials delivered directly to verified beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and NEMA for the timely intervention, describing the assistance as valuable support following the losses suffered during the disasters.
NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely humanitarian assistance to disaster-affected persons and working with relevant stakeholders to strengthen coordinated emergency response across the country.
