Newly qualified members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Akwa Ibom State have been urged to remain focused, disciplined and be committed to professional excellence.
Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Uwem Andrew-Essien, gave the advice when he hosted the May, 2025 set of ICAN Uyo Study Centre in his office.
Andrew-Essien congratulated the new chartered accountants on their success, describing it as a milestone that should serve as a springboard to higher pursuits, especially in Information and Communication Technology.
He emphasized that becoming a member of ICAN was not the end of their professional journey, but rather, the beginning of service, growth and integrity.
He urged the newly qualified ICAN members not to allow their new status as chartered accountants to breed pride or complacency.
“Do not let ICAN get into your heads” he cautioned, “rather let it drive you to the top through humility, diligence, and ethical conduct”.
“Your professionalism should speak louder than your title”.
The Accountant General, who is also a Permanent Secretary, encouraged them to continually update their knowledge and embrace the emerging dynamics of public finance management and digital accounting systems.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Mr. Kevin Archibong, expressed gratitude to the Accountant General for his mentorship and encouragement, pledging to uphold the ethics of the profession, as well as contribute positively to the growth of the State.
Archibong solicited professional guidance as newly qualified members of ICAN to enable them foster the culture of excellence ethics and proficiency within the accounting profession, as well as support to enable them attend their formal induction coming up later in the year.
