Viral video depicting the standard of the hotel given to Super Eagles players in Morocco
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has debunked circulating social media claims that the Super Eagles were lodged in poor accommodation before their 2026 CAF World Cup playoff semifinal against Gabon in Rabat, Morocco.
A short clip shared on Monday by midfielder Alex Iwobi had sparked online outrage, as it appeared to show a dilapidated area allegedly linked to the team’s hotel. The video quickly went viral, prompting fans to question the quality of the Super Eagles’ lodging.
However, the NFF clarified that the viral footage was taken out of context and did not represent the team’s actual accommodation.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the team’s Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, explained that the players were comfortably staying at Rive Hotel, a modern four-star establishment.
> “The Super Eagles are camped at Rive Hotel. What trended earlier was the view of an old building that can be seen from a window,” Efoghe said.
He further explained that the Rive Hotel was specifically chosen for its proximity to both the team’s training ground and the match venue in Rabat.
Efoghe also confirmed that the hotel met all CAF (Confederation of African Football) standards for accommodation, ensuring comfort, security, and convenience for the players and officials.
The Super Eagles are set to take on Gabon in the CAF World Cup playoff semifinal on Thursday, with the victor advancing to face either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final.
The winner of that final matchup will go on to represent Africa at the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff in March 2026, to be held in Mexico.
