The Challenge Initiative (TCI), a non-governmental organization implemented by the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programmes, has dissociated itself from a recent publication titled “Family planning service providers escape mob attack in Akwa Ibom“.
TCI described the report as “inaccurate, misleading, and not representative of the facts or TCI’s official position”.
In a statement signed by Dr. Obasesam Edet, Programme Manager, TCI Akwa Ibom State, the organization emphasized its commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, accuracy, and accountability in all its communications and engagements.
“We consider responsible media reporting a critical component of public trust, especially in matters that concern public health and community development,” Dr. Edet said.
TCI explained that it neither authorized nor endorsed the said report, and the perspectives it portrays and findings do not reflect the views or official communications of TCI.
The organization has taken steps to formally communicate its concerns to the Nigerian Tribune, requesting an immediate retraction and public clarification to mitigate any reputational or programmatic damage caused by the misinformation.
“We wish to make it unequivocally clear that TCI neither authorized nor endorsed the said report, and the perspectives it portrays do not reflect the views, findings, or official communications of our organization,” the statement read.
TCI said it remains committed to working with credible media organizations that uphold the principles of journalistic ethics and professional diligence.
The organization urged stakeholders and the general public to rely only on verified and approved communication channels for any information relating to TCI programs, activities, and interventions.
