Nigerian Army troops on patrol
Nigerian Army troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised a suspected terrorist during a night ambush operation in Borno State, in what security sources described as a proactive effort to prevent infiltration of military positions.
According to security sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 13 when troops of the 202 Battalion, deployed at a forward operational location, detected a suspected member of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal‑Jihad/Islamic State West Africa Province attempting to breach a defensive perimeter.
The ambush team immediately engaged the suspect at close range, leading to his neutralisation after a brief encounter.
Military sources confirmed that the operation was conducted without any casualties among the troops, while no equipment or weapons were lost during the engagement.
Officials noted that the successful ambush highlights the effectiveness of ongoing counter-insurgency operations aimed at denying insurgents freedom of movement and preventing attacks on military formations.
They further disclosed that although the general security situation across the North-East theatre remains relatively calm, troops continue to maintain heightened vigilance due to the unpredictable nature of insurgent activities.
The development comes as Nigerian military forces sustain offensive and defensive operations across the North-East, targeting insurgent movements and strengthening security around strategic locations.
