The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) has concluded a Geo-Strategic Study Tour across Uganda, Botswana, and Tanzania, exposing participants to innovative approaches to forest security and environmental management.
The week-long tour, themed “Security of Forest Reserves for Enhanced National Defence,” aimed to explore how these countries address the complex intersection of environmental management and security governance.
“The tour reinforced the Nigerian army’s commitment to high training standards and institutional oversight,” said Maj.-Gen. Umar Alkali, Commandant of AWCN.
“The knowledge gained would undoubtedly contribute to more effective security operations and a more stable future for Nigeria.”*
Participants gained valuable insights into diverse approaches to forest reserve security, civil-military collaboration, and non-kinetic strategies for countering security threats.
The tour included high-level engagements with government ministries, defense establishments, forest management authorities, and research institutions.
The Nigerian Army hopes to apply the knowledge gained from this tour to address forest security challenges, particularly in tackling insurgency and banditry.
By exploring African solutions, the Army aims to develop innovative strategies for enhancing national defense and stability.
