Ondo State Weightlifter, Sunday Stephen on Monday won team Ondo’s first set medals at the ongoing National Sports Festival (NSF).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 22nd edition of NSF, tagged Gateway Games is holding between May 16 and May 30 across different venues in Ogun State.
Stephen won a silver and a bronze medal in the game of weightlifting’s 61 KG Male category
Stephen, while speaking with newsmen after the event, promised to build on the feat and ensure more medals for the state.
He said he was prepared for the competition and thanked his coaches for the mentoring that ensured him being in medals table
“My target was to snatch and win gold medals for my state, but I thank God for the silver and the bronze medals, all I need to do is to improve on my training and do better in future competitions,” he said.
The General Manager of the State Sports Council, Mr Sunday Fagite commended the athletes for his efforts at being the first athlete to win medals for the state.
“Our athletes and their coaches are ready to give their best at this year’s games,” he said.(NAN)
