Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi has commended the member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Lilian Orogbu, for what he described as purposeful representation through people-centred empowerment initiatives.
Obi gave the commendation in a post shared on his X account on Saturday after attending an empowerment programme organised by the lawmaker in Awka, Anambra State.
According to him, the programme showcased practical efforts aimed at improving the livelihoods of constituents through the distribution of productive assets.
“What I saw was remarkable: vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, refrigerators, grinding machines, and other productive assets being distributed to constituents – not merely as gifts, but as tools for creating livelihoods, strengthening families, and promoting self-reliance,” Obi wrote.
The former Anambra State governor said Orogbu has consistently demonstrated that elective office should be used to improve the lives of the people through impactful projects and interventions.
“Prof. @Oby_Orogbu has consistently demonstrated that public office should be about service. Her interventions in education, infrastructure, scholarships and human development reflect a commitment to leaving her constituency better than she met it,” he stated.
Obi further noted that his visits to programmes organised by the lawmaker have always centred on projects that directly benefit the people.
“Whenever she invites me to an event, it is almost invariably to commission a school, inspect a road, support a scholarship initiative, or participate in a project that directly benefits the people. This is the kind of public engagement we must encourage in our country.”
He expressed confidence that the federal lawmaker could achieve even more if given the opportunity to continue serving in the National Assembly.
“As I said yesterday, if she has achieved this much as a first-term legislator, one can only imagine what even greater impact she can make with more experience and responsibility in the National Assembly.”
Obi also praised Orogbu for her dedication to public service and commended constituents of Awka North and South Federal Constituency for supporting what he described as effective representation.
“I commend Professor Lilian Orogbu for her courage, commitment and compassion. I also commend the people of Awka North and South Federal Constituency for supporting a representative who continues to demonstrate that leadership is about service, sacrifice and measurable impact.”
He concluded by urging Nigerian leaders to embrace a culture of selfless service.
“Nigeria will progress when public office becomes less about what leaders receive and more about what they give back to the people.
“With clear leadership, a new Nigeria is POssible.”
