Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the Methodist Church of Nigeria to remain steadfast in promoting justice, good governance and accountability in the country.
Obi made the appeal in a post shared on his X account on Thursday after attending the opening of the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church of Nigeria in Ibadan.
He said he joined Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and members of the Methodist Church from across Nigeria and beyond at the event.
Reflecting on the occasion, Obi expressed gratitude for the Church’s enduring legacy and said it reminded him of Nigeria’s enormous potential.
“I thank God for His faithfulness to the Methodist Church over the years and reflect on the immense potential Nigeria possesses as a nation,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor urged the Church to continue playing its role as a moral voice by standing with ordinary Nigerians and promoting justice.
“I encourage the Church and its delegates to remain steadfast in speaking truth to power, standing with the suffering masses, and continuing to advocate for justice, good governance, and a better Nigeria for all, especially in these challenging times,” Obi stated.
He added, “The Church remains one of our nation’s strongest voices of hope, conscience, and moral leadership.”
Obi also appreciated the Methodist Church for inviting him to the conference and appealed to members to keep praying for Nigeria and its leaders.
“I thank the Methodist Church for its invitation and ask that they continue to remember our nation in their prayers. I urge them always to pray that God Almighty would touch the hearts of politicians and leaders, so that they will always think and use public resources for the public good,” he said.
He wished the delegates a successful conference and ended his message with his familiar slogan: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
