Former Governor of Oyo State, Rasheed Ladoja
Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, arrived in Ibadan on Monday after being away from the city for several distinctive weeks.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Oba Ladoja was greeted with enthusiasm by family members and supporters at the Ibadan-Lagos tollgate. He then proceeded to his family residence in Isale-Osi, Ibadan South East Local Government Area, where a small reception was held to celebrate the 44th Olubadan-designate’s return.
NAN reports that on August 4, the Olubadan Advisory Council unanimously selected Oba Ladoja as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland, following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on July 7.
The traditional coronation ceremonies for Oba Ladoja are expected to begin once his nomination is approved by Governor Seyi Makinde.
A prominent shipping magnate and industrialist, Oba Ladoja previously served as a senator during the short-lived Third Republic and as governor of Oyo State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 2003 to 2007. His governorship was briefly interrupted by a controversial 11-month impeachment, but he was later reinstated by a court ruling. (NAN)
