Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct security agencies to ensure that the will of the electorate is protected, following reports of alleged attempts to disrupt the collation of results in the ongoing governorship election.
In a post shared on his official X account on Saturday, Adeleke expressed concern over what he described as attempts by “desperate and rejected politicians” to hijack or interfere with collation centres across the state despite the heavy deployment of security personnel.
Addressing the President directly, the governor said: “Dear @officialABAT, It is imperative that you use your good office to issue a clear warning to the heads of security agencies deployed to protect the good people of Osun State and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.”
He added that reports of attempts to hijack or disrupt collation centres were “deeply concerning and unacceptable,” especially in view of the security presence across the state.
Adeleke urged President Tinubu to reaffirm his commitment that every lawful vote would count and that the outcome of the election would reflect the choice of the people.
“I therefore implore you to reiterate the commitment made to the people of Osun State that their votes will count and that the outcome of this election will reflect their genuine choice,” he wrote.
The governor also called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies to remain impartial and provide the necessary support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, “The Nigeria @PoliceNG, @OfficialDSSNG @HQNigerianArmy @official_NSCDC and other security agencies must strictly adhere to this directive, while @inecnigeria must be given every necessary support to conclude the process and deliver a credible and transparent outcome.”
Reiterating his confidence in the electorate, Adeleke insisted that the mandate of the people must be respected.
“The people of Osun State have spoken with one voice, and their voices must be heard. Their votes must be protected, and their mandate must be respected.”
Voting and collation of results were ongoing across Osun State as residents awaited the official declaration of the election outcome by INEC.
