The outgoing Executive Chairman of Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board, Senator Stephen Odey, has disclosed that since his assumption of office in 2015, his management team have uncovered over 1,500 fake teachers in the state.

Senator Odey, who spoke during a valedictory ceremony in his office to mark the end of his tenure, commended Governor Ben Ayade for giving him the opportunity to serve.

He said: “As at 2015 when we came in, they were backlogged of marching grants which his excellency Governor Ben Ayade cleared and today we are the only state that have been able to access the 2022 marching grants”.

“We have awarded 639 projects during my tenure as Chairman and they have been completed and we inherited 20 abandoned projects, but today we only have 10 abandoned projects.

He said the Board under his watch was able to employ over 2,865 teachers across the state based on needs assessment from different local government areas.

Senator Odey, however, lamented that his agency is one of the most investigated in Cross River State.

“My agency has a very strong desire to show transparency in what we do” he noted.
