Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on FERMA, Rep. Aderemi Oseni, has revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State is intensifying efforts to defeat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday, Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, expressed regret over the APC’s loss in the 2023 governorship race and emphasized the party’s resolve to reclaim power.
Reflecting on past setbacks, Oseni noted that the APC has learned from its missteps, particularly in a recent bye-election won by the PDP.
“We’ve taken stock of our errors and are strategizing for the future,” he said.
“Our approach for 2027 will be markedly different. We’re committed to rebuilding and strengthening the APC to ensure victory.”
Oseni highlighted the party’s renewed focus on unity and preparation.
“The mistakes we made are clear to everyone in the party. We’ve gone back to the drawing board, and it’s now a collective mission to restore the APC’s dominance in Oyo State,” he stated.
He stressed that party leaders are working diligently to reposition the APC and avoid a repeat of past defeats.
Addressing his own political aspirations, Oseni, an engineer-turned-politician, clarified that his primary goal is to strengthen the APC, though he remains open to higher responsibilities.
“I’m not driven by personal ambition, but I’m positioning myself to serve Oyo State at a greater capacity if called upon,” he said.
He also revealed that his support group, the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends (ROCOF), with over 200,000 members, has begun mobilizing support for the APC ahead of 2027.
Oseni emphasized the importance of selfless leadership in politics.
“Politics shouldn’t be left to those chasing personal gain. My decision to enter politics was to serve the people of Oyo State,” he said.
To secure a strong showing in 2027, he urged the APC to field its best candidates for both executive and legislative roles.
The lawmaker also called for strategic consultations on zoning the governorship ticket to promote fairness across Oyo State’s senatorial districts.
He pointed out that Ibadan, located in Oyo South Senatorial District, has historically dominated the governorship, often sidelining Oyo Central and Oyo North.
“Why does Ibadan resist zoning the governorship to other districts? This is a question many are asking,” Oseni remarked.
“Our elders must come together, engage with the people of Ibarapa, Ibadan, and Oke-Ogun, and agree on a rotational system for the governorship. It’s achievable with deliberate effort.”
Oseni believes that equitable zoning could be a game-changer for the APC’s success.
“By allowing other senatorial districts to produce the governor, we can strengthen our party’s appeal and secure a win in 2027,” he said.
He urged all APC stakeholders to unite for a “rebirth” of the party in Oyo State and beyond.
