The ancient city of Ibadan, long regarded as the political heartbeat of Southwestern Nigeria, has thrown its gates wide open as it prepares to host what many are already describing as one of the most consequential gatherings in the party’s recent history—the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Elective Convention, tagged #Ibadan2025.
Across the city, excitement blends with visible readiness.

The Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, the main venue for the convention, now shimmers in the familiar Green, White, and Red of the PDP, with banners, posters, and themed décor setting the tone for days of political deliberations and high-level party engagement.
Residents say the transformation of the city reflects both pride and expectation

A PDP member in Oyo State, Kehinde Ogunlana, captured the mood succinctly:
“Ibadan is not just hosting a convention; we are hosting the future of Nigerian democracy.”
According to Ogunlana, preparations have touched every corner of the city.

“From the bus stops to the hotels, from the roads to the stadium, every detail has been meticulously planned. Ibadan is safe, Ibadan is ready, and Ibadan welcomes the PDP family with open arms,” he said.
With governors, national delegates, party leaders, and stakeholders arriving from across the federation, Ibadan appears poised not only to host a convention but to underscore its enduring relevance on Nigeria’s political map. The stage is set; #Ibadan2025 has officially taken centre stage.
