People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized Governor Umo Eno over his recent remarks claiming ownership of all political structures in Akwa Ibom State.
According to the party, such a declaration portrays the governor as more interested in consolidating political power than fulfilling the responsibilities of effective governance.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice, Tom Fredfish, the party expressed disappointment over what it described as Governor Eno’s misplaced priorities.
“At a time when Akwa Ibom people earnestly expect responsive and impactful leadership, the governor has chosen to dissipate energy on needless political grandstanding rather than addressing the pressing socio-economic challenges facing citizens,” Fredfish said.
He further pointed out that the political structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom had already been ceded to Governor Eno by the Senate President, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
“It is a matter of public record that the entire political structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State was openly handed over to Governor Umo Eno by the Senate President, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
“This therefore begs the question: What other structure is the governor struggling for, and against whom?
“Such posturing only underscores a lack of clarity, conviction, and direction in his political journey.
“Governor Eno’s defection to the APC has been nothing short of a grave miscalculation—bleak, unsustainable, and rooted in expediency rather than principle.
“His current struggles betray the reality of a man caught among strange allies who neither share his vision nor repose genuine trust in his leadership.
“The truth remains that the APC is not, and cannot be, his natural political home.
“We urge Governor Umo Eno to retrace his steps and return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while there is still room for redemption.
“Governance is not about endless political maneuvering; it is about selfless service, vision, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.
“Akwa Ibom deserves a leader who is focused, courageous, and people-centered—not one distracted by petty rivalries and internal squabbles.
“The time has come for Governor Umo Eno to choose service over desperation, responsibility over recklessness, and the people over personal ambition,” he stated.
Governor Eno had made the controversial comments during a Thanksgiving service to mark the 38th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State’s creation.
He claimed that party structures belonged to him and should be handed over for use in the state’s development.
According to Eno, politicians were more interested in seizing party structures from him, rather than recognizing his ownership.
