
Plateau Governor, Caleb Mutfwang presenting budget before the state House of Assembly
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Wednesday presented a proposed budget of ₦914.8 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the Plateau State House of Assembly for consideration and approval, describing it as a consolidation plan to accelerate growth and sustain ongoing development projects across the state.
Tagged “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability II,” the 2026 appropriation represents an increase of ₦305.6 billion over the revised 2025 budget of ₦609.1 billion, underscoring the administration’s resolve to deepen infrastructure development and drive economic expansion.
Of the total estimate, ₦573.45 billion, representing 62.93 percent, is allocated to capital expenditure, while ₦341.40 billion, amounting to 37.07 percent, is earmarked for recurrent spending.
Presenting the budget before lawmakers in Jos, Governor Mutfwang said the proposal reflects his administration’s commitment to consolidating on the gains recorded in the last two fiscal years and delivering more people-centred projects.
According to him, “This budget, titled: ‘Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability II,’ is proposed amidst our ongoing emphasis and full commitment to implementing people-oriented projects and programmes in the state.
“The desire and passion of the current administration under my leadership are to serve the people of Plateau State sincerely and without compromise. Our aim as a government is to address the current difficulties faced by citizens and tackle insecurity in collaboration with security operatives assigned to maintain law and order in the state.”
Governor Mutfwang explained that the 2026 budget was prepared alongside the *Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) 2026–2028, in compliance with the Plateau State Fiscal Responsibility Law of 2014. He said the document provides a three-year fiscal plan anchored on accountability, inclusion, and sustainability.
He added, “Today’s event marks another milestone in our collective effort to advance the *‘Time is Now’* policy agenda, a development philosophy built on accountability, inclusion, and sustainability. The synergy and partnership of the 10th Assembly have been instrumental to the significant milestones recorded since our assumption of office.”
Under the new proposal, the economic sector is allocated ₦464.98 billion (50.8 percent), social services ₦218.56 billion (23.9 percent), administration ₦207.93 billion (22.7 percent), and law and justice ₦23.39 billion (2.6 percent).
The governor said the increase in the 2026 estimate was driven by his administration’s commitment to providing quality leadership and completing critical infrastructure projects that would impact lives across the state. He appealed for the continued cooperation of the legislature to ensure early passage of the budget for smooth implementation in 2026.
“As you deliberate on the budget, may I respectfully appeal for your continued understanding, cooperation, and expeditious consideration of the document to enable us to commence implementation in good time,” he told the lawmakers.
Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to peace, security, and good governance, saying the 2026 fiscal plan was designed to strengthen the foundations of Plateau’s sustainable development agenda.
Responding, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, commended Governor Mutfwang for presenting the 2026 Appropriation Bill and reaffirmed the legislature’s resolve to ensure transparency and due process in its consideration.
He assured citizens that the House would give the proposal due consideration in the best interest of the people, adding that deliberations would reflect the collective will and aspirations of constituents.
