FCT Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a 55-year-old caregiver, Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, and a one-year-and-two-month-old toddler, Nanenter Yese, entrusted to her care.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command, on July 23, received a report of the sudden disappearance of Mrs Chinyere Anaene, a 55-year-old nurse at Clear Hope Foundation Academy, Dawaki, Abuja, and Nanenter Yese, a one-year and two-month-old toddler.
She said the caregiver’s husband received a ransom demand of ₦250 million through her mobile phone, which led the police to launch an investigation.
“Later that day, while at the police station, the caregiver’s husband received a ransom demand of ₦250 million through her mobile phone,” Adeh said.
*Investigation and Arrest*
The police employed digital forensics to trace the victims and suspects, leading to the arrest of a security guard at the school, Clear Hope Foundation Academy in Dawaki, Abuja. “
The command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit swiftly launched an investigation, employing digital forensics and traced the victims and suspects to Yelwa and Uke in Nasarawa State,” Adeh explained.
*Gruesome Discovery*
The suspect confessed to conspiring with his best friend to commit the crime, luring Anaene to the school bathroom where they attacked and strangled her, and then murdering the toddler in a similar manner.
She said the bodies of the victims were placed in a sack, transported using a scavenger’s cart, and dumped in a canal.
“The suspect led police to the location, where the remains were recovered,” Adeh added.
The police have assured that justice will be served in this matter.
Adeh expressed the command’s heartfelt condolences to the families of Anaene and Baby Nanenter, saying, “The command expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families of Anaene and Baby Nanenter and assures that justice would be pursued with full resolve on the matter.”
