Police arrest Anambra LG chairman over wife’s death

Chairman of Nnewi North LGA, Mbazulike Iloka and his late wife, Chidiebere Iloka

The police authority in Anambra State has arrested the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North LGA, Mbazulike Iloka, who was earlier suspended by Governor Chukwuma Soludo over the death of his wife.

Iloka, who was sworn in as chairman of the local government area, less than a week before the death of his wife was removed from office by the state government following allegations of wife battery which led to her death.

The embattled chairman has however denied the claims saying that he didn’t hit his late wife.

According to him, she slipped and fell, while bringing food to him, hitting her head on a concrete wall.

Police sources say the suspended chairman who is popularly known as Mba Mba is currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Awka, Anambra State, under charges of culpable homicide.

The spokesperson of the Anambra State Police command while confirming his arrest, called on members of the public to be patient as the autopsy shall prove the cause of the wife’s death.
