Police officer, 2 bandits killed during gun battle in Nasarawa

A police inspector, Yusuf Jafaru, has been killed by unknown gunmen in a gun duel in Nunku town in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 10 pm, when the gunmen in their numbers opened fire on the five police officers who were on patrol.

In the process, two of the suspects, and a police officer were gunned down during the gun battle.

The corpse of the deceased officer who was killed in line of duty has been deposited at the General Hospital, Akwanga.

While the corpses of the criminals were dumped at the Police station in Akwanga town, as members of the public trooped in to catch glimpse.

Meanwhile, The Executive Chairman of Akwanga LGA, Alhaji Safiyanu Isa, has confirmed the development to our correspondent.

Alhaji Isa said the council is on top of the security situation bedevilling the area, while encouraging the residents and travellers on Akwanga-Jos high way to go about their businesses.

Also, The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nasarawa State Command, DSP Nanham Nansel, has also confirmed the development to our correspondent and promised to release a statement on the incident.
