
Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Ukachi Opara

Cross River State Police Command has paraded seven (7) suspects for various offences as well as recover one locally fabricated berretta pistol with two (2) rounds of live 9mm ammunition among others.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Ukachi Opara, disclosed this in a statement issued over the weekend in Calabar by the Police Public Relation Officer Irene Ugbo.
Ugbo said: “at about 2330hours, the above matter was reported at Akamkpa Division by one Mr Lawrence Okon Ikpeme, that his house was burgled, valuable properties and the some of six hundred and twenty one thousand naira (#6,21,000.00), was stolen from the cupboard, seventy (70) pairs of short slave shirt worth three hundred and sixty thousand naira (#360,000.00), twelve pairs of jean trousers value two hundred and sixteen thousand naira (#260,000.00) and half bag of rice worth forty thousand naira (#40,000.00). Upon the report detectives from the Division arrested one suspect Joseph Oko Ewa ‘m’ age 22yrs, and transferred to State Cid for discreet investigation.
“Also, at about 1900hrs, operatives of Anti-cultism and Kidnapping Squad received credible information that one Tyoor Williams Ushaheba m’ age 24yrs is a gun runner that supply arms and ammunition to hoodlums within Cross River State, based on the strength of information the operatives the Squad swiftly mobilizes and trial the suspect to a hideout in Atamunu Street, Calabar South and arrested the suspect during interrogation he confessed. He took the men to his house at Palm Street, Calabar South. Search was carryout that led to the recovery of one (1) locally fabricated berretta pistol with two (2) rounds of live 9mm ammunition. The suspect will be charge to court for prosecution soonest
The Commissioner of police said through a tip off information that Cameroonian Ambazonian rebel fighters are residing at No 6 All Nation Road, in Akamkpa Local Government. Based on the information, surveillance team of the Division monitored and arrested the suspects. Namely: Jovany Nji ‘m’, Tito Calmas ‘m’, Cynthia ini ‘f’
“Items recovered are some Improvised explosive device (IED), pairs of jungle boots, booklets of Ambazonian rebel, two flags and charms. The case file has been transferred to State CID for discreet and diligent prosecution.
“Also, at about 0435hours, patrol team of Akamkpa Divisional Police Headquarters, while on routine patrol, along Etisalat Mast Station, Awi Village, sighted one Ajah Benjamin ‘m’ age 23yrs, while Vandalizing Etisalat Mast Station was arrested with two (2) rolls of Armored Cables suspected to be vandalized were recovered from him. Value of property not yet estimated.
“One Effiong Effiong Bassey m, age 24, a student of College of Education, Awi in Akamkpa was armed with axe, he was trial and arrested, when interrogated he confessed being a member of Black Axe Confraternity cult group.
The statement noted that all suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigation.
