Lagos State Police Command has denied reports that it detained Mr. Declan Ihekaire, who staged a solo #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest at Iyana Ipaja.
In a statement shared Monday via its official X account, @LagosPoliceNG, the command addressed circulating online reports alleging Ihekaire’s arrest and detention, calling them inaccurate.
The police clarified that officers—alongside riot control units—were deployed to manage the situation after some individuals attempted to hijack the peaceful protest, turning it into a potential threat to public order.
According to the statement, “Ihekaire was merely cautioned on the need to operate within the confines of the law and to avoid actions capable of inciting violence or disturbing the peace in Lagos. He was later allowed to go.”
The command emphasized that the broader security operation, supervised by Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, was part of efforts to reinforce public confidence and maintain order across the state.
Reassuring residents, the police noted that the state remains calm, urging everyone to continue their daily routines without fear.
