Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of Femi Oladele, the prime suspect in the murder of two Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) students, Andrel Eloho Okah and John Friday Abba.
Oladele, a landlord and cult leader, allegedly masterminded the kidnapping, robbery, rape, and murder of the two students.
A statement issued on Saturday by the police spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade said Oladele died in the hospital on Friday after falling ill while in custody.
DSP Ayanlade said the exact circumstances of his death are still unclear, with conflicting reports emerging.
Some sources claim he died in police custody, while others suggest he passed away at the hospital.
According to him, the police investigation revealed that Oladele hired suspected cultists to abduct and kill the students.
Hee said two accomplices, Abdul Mohammed Mubarak and Ojo Michael, were arrested in connection with the crime.
Michael confessed to raping Okah and implicated Oladele as the mastermind.
He said the police are still searching for another suspect, identified as Kola.
“The police recovered Okah’s decomposing body from a shallow grave in a forest near the Ondo-Ekiti border. Efforts are ongoing to locate Abba’s body, believed to have been dumped in a river.
“A Lexus RX 350 vehicle belonging to Abba was recovered from one of the suspects, and ₦800,000 was transferred from Abba’s account during their captivity”, he said .
The Ondo State Police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, assured the public that efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspect and bring all perpetrators to justice.
He described the case as a “tragic reminder of the brutality of premeditated crimes”.
