Real Madrid secured a 1-0 victory over Juventus in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Round of 16 match, advancing to the quarterfinals.
The winning goal was scored by Gonzalo Garcia in the 54th minute, thanks to a pinpoint cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Juventus had early chances, with Randal Kolo Muani and Kenan Yildiz testing Real Madrid’s defense, but goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and the crossbar kept them at bay.
The match was played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, with a attendance of 62,149 spectators. Real Madrid dominated possession, controlling 57% of the ball, while Juventus had 43%. The Spanish side also outshot their opponents 21-6, with 11 shots on target compared to Juventus’ 2.
Kylian Mbappe made his tournament debut as a second-half substitute, replacing Gonzalo Garcia in the 68th minute. Despite his limited playing time, Mbappe’s presence was felt, with the crowd chanting his name.
Juventus’ goalkeeper, Michele Di Gregorio, made several impressive saves, including denying Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde, to spare his team a heavier defeat.
The win sets up a quarterfinal match for Real Madrid against the winner of the Borussia Dortmund vs Monterrey matchup, scheduled to take place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday.
Real Madrid’s coach, Xabi Alonso, praised his team’s professionalism and Garcia’s goal-scoring ability, while Juventus’ coach, Igor Tudor, commended his team’s effort in challenging conditions.
